The Stars Are Bright Deep
in the Heart Of Llano, Tx.
Plans are underway for the Llano County Heritage Festival
this fall, on and around the courthouse square sponsored by Llano Main
Street.
This year the event will be held October 15, 16 and 17. The Llano River
Chuck Wagon Cook-off will be at that time in Badu Park, on the north
side of the Llano River Bridge. Fourteen authentic wagons will roll
into Llano Friday October 15 and set up their campsites to get ready
to prepare their meal. The judging will be Saturday morning, with the
meal ready for the public by 12:00 noon. Meal tickets are $15.00 and
are available through the Chamber of Commerce, 325-247-5354.
A very special attraction
this year will be Don Edwards, composer,
balladeer,
and Cowboy Hall of Fame icon, and dubbed “the voice of the American cowboy”,
he will have a concert here Saturday, October 16 at the LanTex Theater at 7:00
p.m. Advance tickets are $12.00 and $15.00 at the box office. For ticket information
call: Llano Chamber of Commerce 325-247-5354, Nail Head Spur, 325-247-2589. and
Enchanted Rocks and Jewelry, 325-247-4137.
The 2nd Llano Ranch Rodeo at the Llano arena will start Saturday night at 6:00
p.m. with wild cow milking, team sorting, trailer loading and branding. There
will be a dance following.
The square will come alive Saturday afternoon, as The Brazos Bottom Cow O’graphers
will be on the square both days with fun entertainment and gun fights. Events
that have tentatively scheduled are our vendors, food, living history, a quilt
show, courthouse tours, antique photography display, a period dress contest,
and music on the square both days. Saturday performances scheduled are John Arthur
Martinez starting at 12:00, followed by Floyd Domino and friends with the beautiful
songs by Manny and Teru to end the day. Sunday music TBA and will be local Llano
flavor. This festival has been a fall event wince 1998 when the courthouse square
was placed in the National Register of Historic Places.
The authentic stagecoach that was here during The Texas Proud Festival will be
back for rides on the north side of the Llano River through Saturday noon, then
on the south side for Saturday afternoon and Sunday. The Red Top Jail will be
open for tours, with a jail break for sure. Our focus, of course will be Llano
history and hope different pioneer communities will have displays. We encourage
everyone to dress in period costume which adds to the authenticity of the festival.
Come and have a fun filled adventure in Llano third week-end in October.
